THE second phase of admissions for privately sponsored students to Makerere University closes Friday.

Makerere University had been forced to re-advertise at least 46 privately sponsored undergraduate courses that did not fill all the required slots.

Applications for consideration for admission under the private sponsorship at Makerere University opened on May 26, and closed June 13.

Last week, the university released the list of about 21,000 students admitted under the private sponsorship scheme for the 2014/2015 academic year.

Charles Ssentongo, the Makerere University deputy registrar, undergraduate admissions yesterday however said the institution did not receive the requisite number of applications for some courses by June 13. This prompted re-advertisement of the courses.

Both Diploma and Degree courses are on offer. Both Sciences and Arts courses are among those re-advertised. While some of the re-advertised courses are on the evening programme, others are on the day programme.

About 1,000 slots are available for all the 46 courses and application fee is sh50,000.

Most of the courses on offer are new, especially those at the College of Veterinary Medicine, and Animal Biosecurity (CoVAB).

Old courses are equally up for grabs and these include Tourism, Arts in Arts, Sports Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, Commerce and Development studies.

As much as most of these courses will be undertaken at Makerere University main campus, a good number are for the institution’s upcountry campus of Jinja and Fort Portal.

Of all the re-advertised courses, Bachelor of Computer Science at Jinja has the highest cut-off point at 24. 8, followed by Bachelor of Science in Laboratory Science Education and Industry (23), and Bachelor of Conservation Forestry and Products Technology (20.8).

Other degree courses with high cut-off points include Bachelor of Tourism (20.3), Bachelor of Science in Poultry Industry and Business (19.20), Bachelor of Science in Feed Industry and Business (19.5), and Bachelor of Development Studies-Fort Portal (19.2).

The Diploma programmes with the high cut-offs include Livestock Health Sciences (18.3), Project Planning Management-Fort Portal (19.5) and Project Planning Management- Jinja (17.7).

Of the degree courses on offer, Bachelor of Commerce-Jinja has the least cut-off of 8.6, trailed by Bachelor of Commerce-Fort Portal (10.0).

Diploma courses with the least cut-off points include Poultry Industry and Business (10.4), and Laboratory Science Education Industry (10.3)-both at the main campus.
