Despite receiving a rude welcome in their first appearance in competitive rugby, managing just a single try but losing all the games, UPDF team is not losing its vision of becoming the country’s top rugby side.

The Bombo based team lost all their matches in the Ecobank rugby 7s at Kyadondo on Saturday but managed a try against Rhinos in a game the army boys were walloped 17-7.

“We are not scared of the defeats and this try Felix scored has inspired us more. We are going to work harder,” coach player 2nd Lt. Ronald Tusiime stated.

The former Pirates flanker argued that the army has enough talents to take charge of Uganda rugby and they will do so soon. We are not stepping back,” Tusiime stressed.

Meanwhile Bishop Onen scored four tries, while Arthur Mukama and Brian Kikaawa added a try each as Heathens whipped Pirates 30-0 in the final to win the national 7s circuit and the sh3m cash prize courtesy of sponsors Ecobank.

Pirates’ team manager Denis Etuket attributed the defeat to lack of consistence of the players. “We should have performed well but having a different set of players every circuit affected us,” he stated.

Kobs finished second and Rams third winning sh2m and sh1.5m respectively in the tournament co-sponsored by Nile Breweries and Sheraton Hotel.
