Leaders of the 15 Commonwealth countries meeting at Marlborough House formally approved the application of Uganda to become an independent member nation of the Commonwealth after attaining independence. 

Harold Macmillan wrote to Obote, telling him of the decision to admit Uganda as a full member of the Commonwealth. Obote said he looked forward to working closely with Britain and other Commonwealth governments in pursuance of Commonwealth ideas. Uganda was set to get independence on October 9, 1962
