Just as the singing couple of Geoffrey Lutaaya and wife Irene Namatovu was getting their footing, following the fallout with Eagles’ Production, things seem to be heating up already in their New Eagles’ band.
The couple has recently been on an intensive recruitment and mentoring drive of a young breed of singers to get their new band hitting the ground while running; but already six of the over twenty recruits, barely three months on the job, have defected to another group.
The six are reported to have joined also an Eagles’ Production breakaway member, Haji Haruna Mubiru aka Kitooke’s Kream Production.
Those reported to have left Lutaaya, five of whom are girls, are; Julian Mulungi, Evelyn Ndagire, Annet Birungi, Brenda Nsimye and Kukiriza.
They say they left the group on their own will to join a band that treats them with respect and pays them their worth.
One of the girls claims Lutaaya has a short fuse and is always barking at them and that they do not have a life outside the band because they are always taken on week-long tours in remote areas and paid peanuts.
Kitooke was among the first people to quit Eagles’ Production citing unfairness in remuneration.
I fired those girls – Lutaaya
Lutaaya though says contrary to reports, he fired some of the recruits while others were frustrated by their boyfriends who could not stomach their long stays out of town.
He also says Evelyn Ndagire and Julian Mulungi were dismissed over indiscipline.
He said that though some of the singers are really talented and he had invested a lot in them indiscipline cost them and he had to sacrifice them for the good of the band.
Lutaaya added: “I would rather work with the few disciplined ones.”
He also noted that while some of them were not creative he was proud of people like Betina Namukasa who has her own hit, “Emikisa gy’Abakazi”.
I can make your dreams come true – Kitooke
Speaking about his new members Kitooke says he has the power to make these girls’ dreams come true.
He said when he met they girls they told him they wanted to work in a stress free environment and someone to genuinely hone their skills.
He said the girls also said they wanted a chance to sing on stage other than be backup singers which he promised he would do.
In is excitement he noted that one of the girls is so bright like the sun and would give fans their money’s worth.
