The FUFA Super Cup scheduled for Saturday is in balance after league champions KCCA FC insisted that they will not honour the fixture.

FUFA has rescheduled the match that features the FUFA Super League champions and the Uganda Cup winners from Nakivubo on August 6 to Wankulukuku on Saturday.

But KCCA argue that they do not have plans for the match because they did not get notification early enough. The Lugogo side are slated to play Cup holders URA FC.

If KCCA stand their ground and fail to honour the fixture, FUFA will for the first time in the history of the Cup let the league runners up Sports Club Victoria University take part.

FUFA officially wrote to inform KCCA and URA FC to play the match last Thursday sparking off protest from the Lugogo side.

Whereas URA FC coach Alex Isabirye has no reservations with the schedule, KCCA coach George Nsimbe argued that, “We are the champions. We deserve ample time of notice otherwise they (FUFA) may find another team to replace us. I even don’t have some of my big players for the Cup.”

KCCA’s returnee striker Brian Umony (from Azam FC) and left winger Brain Majwega are on national duty with the Uganda Cranes in Mauritania.

They are expected back by Tuesday when KCCA heads for the CECAFA Club championships in Rwanda.

But FUFA competitions manager Ali Mwebe insisted the Super Cup has to be played  because they had no communication to the contrary from the engaged teams.

“They (KCCA) have not written to us to say they cannot honour the match so we know they are in line to play. They cannot cite absence of players because they have up seven slots for substitutions in the Super Cup,” Mwebe said.

The Super Cup is a season curtain raiser meant for the national champions and the Uganda Cup holders.
