A top Muslim cleric has challenged Uganda’s political leaders to prove that they are better than Idi Amin - Uganda’s former President who was ousted in 1979.

Sheikh Mutimba Yusufu said, the leaders of regimes that overthrew Amin for his ‘bad leadership’ should ask themselves if they have been better than him over three decades since the self-declared ‘conqueror of the British Empire’ was deposed.

He asked Muslims to compete for the top political positions saying once they (Muslims) are in charge of the country’s affairs, complaints over few positions allocated to them in government will be no more.

“We shall be the ones to give and not others giving us. Compete for all government positions so that we are the ones to give others,” Mutimba said during Eid-Al Fitr prayers at Kibuli Mosque in Kampala on Monday.

Al Haji Dr. Kassim Nakibinge also urged the Muslims he hosted at his home after prayers at Kibuli Mosque to build a stronger power base and compete for the top political positions in the land.

“There are no free things. The only way we can attain peace and be happy in this country is by competing for all political positions. I thank those who have tried to compete for political positions,” he said.
