Students at Eastern Kentucky University in the US have mobilized $500 (about sh1.2m) for Muslims at Masjid Taqwa Mosque in Bbuto Bweyogerere to buy foodstuffs as they celebrate Idd el Fitr this weekend.

The cash was received by the mosque Imaam (leader) Sheikh Abdallah Mutyaba and the mosque’s Sheikkat (women leader) Hajat Madina Kayongo on Thursday. The money was lobbied by Musa Kimuli, a member of the mosque but now studying at the American university.

“This is good that our own son remembers his Muslim brothers back home. The Muslims here, especially the disadvantaged families will have some peace of mind as they celebrate the end of the sacred month of Ramadhan,” Sheikh Mutyaba commented.

Kimuli said on Facebook that the Muslims at Kentucky wanted to share the little they had with ‘our Muslim brothers in other parts of the world’
