Two men traded insults at Bugiri Police recently, while fighting over a five-month-old baby boy. One of the men filed a suit in Kampala, accusing the other of kidnaping his son.

Opolot Bosco and Brian Wampero, both residents of Bukasa, Muyenga village in Kampala, insist they fathered the child.

The baby’s mother, Florence Kogai, is officially married to Opolot, a dealer in textbooks, but says she had a love affair with Wampero, after getting misunderstandings with her husband.

“It is true, I was in love with Wampero for some time. But I was three months pregnant at the start of the relationship. I later returned to my husband after settling our differences,”Kogai said.

Wampero, who is in Police custody, insists Kogai is lying.

“The baby is mine. I lived with Kogai for over nine months and she was not pregnant at the start of our relationship.

I found her living alone and she never told me she was married. It is unfortunate that

I cannot afford a DNA test to prove that the kid is mine,” Wampero, a wielder, told Saturday Vision.

He said when Opolot showed up claiming Kogai was his wife, she decided to go back to Opolot, where she gave birth to my baby. I demanded for my child and the man refused,” he Wampero said.

Wampero is being charged with kidnap. He says after losing hope of getting his son. He stole the couple’s older boy and took him to his home village in Bwalula, Nankoma sub-county in Bugiri district.”

When Opolot discovered his son was missing, he said he called Wampero, who demanded a sh20m ransom.

“I filed a kidnap case with the Police and, together with my wife and Police detectives, we went to Bwalula village and lured Wampero into coming for his money. We pleaded with him, saying we had brought sh15m of the 20m.

When he came for the money, the Police arrested him.”

The Police handed over the boy to the Opolots, but Wampero insists he is his fathered and would continue demanding him.
