Uganda Rugby Union was on the morning of Thursday July 24,2014 relieved when Nile breweries Under their Brand Nile Special committed sh150m to the Uganda Cup tournament.

The tournament kicks off on Saturday July26,2014 on various grounds around the country.

URU, CEO, Ramsey Olinga expressed gratitude to the sponsors pledging a tournament worthy of the investment.

“Uganda Cup is a nation-wide tournament involving upcountry teams and a lot of costs and by supporting it and taking the game outside Kampala gives the sponsors not value for the investment but the growth of the sport,” Olinga stated.

Nile Breweries sponsorship manager Isaac sekaasi (C) signs the sh150m Uganda Cup sponsorship dummy cheque  as Uganda Rugby Union CEO  Ramsey Olinga (R) and tournament director Roger Sebina look on

The sponsorship was announced by Nile Breweries sponsorship manager Isaac Sekaasi who also disclosed that participating teams will receive facilitation of sh1m cash and other logistics direct from sponsors Nile Special.

“As a brand we are committed to playing a positive role in the growth of rugby in the country and unlike in the past, this time each team is getting sh1m as facilitation,” Sekaasi stated.

“We understand given enormous costs, this is not enough but it’s a start,” Sekaasi stressed before adding that there will be fans activations that will have four fans plus the tournament MVP tour Dubai for a week.

The tournament kickoff tomorrow with Buffaloes facing Rams in Makerere, Cup holders entertain Boks at Legends Kampala Rugby Club and Gulu Elephants hosts former champions DMark Kobs.

In the other fixtures Xfm Impis travels to Jinja to battle Walukuba Rugby Club, Uganda Christian University (UCU) hosts Sadolin Mongers of Entebbe and Jinja Hippos host Pirates at Dam Waterz Ground in Jinja.
