Mother abandons two weeks baby in hospital

The administrators of St. Francis Naggalama hospital in Mukono District are stranded by a three-weeks baby girl who was abandoned by her mother a week ago.

The administrators of St. Francis Naggalama hospital in Mukono District are stranded by a three-weeks baby girl who was abandoned by her mother a week ago.

Sr. Jane Francis Nakafeero, the hospital administrator said that the mother who gave birth to this baby on July 3, abandoned her at the ward on July 17 at around 8:00pm.

Police identified the baby’s mother as Hellen Nalubega 23, a resident of Kyetume village in Nakisunga sub-county, Mukono district.

Naggalama Division Police Commander, John Bosco Sserunjogi told  the New Vision that they are searching for the whereabouts of Nalubega for the pending child desertion case.

The bouncing baby girl who was baptised Maria Asumpta by the hospital administrators is being nursed by a midwife, Sylvia Nansukusa.

Nansukusa said that according to other attendants in the ward, Nalubega abandoned the baby at around 8:00pm and they noticed at 9:30pm when she started crying and no one could attend to her.

Naggalama Medical Superintendent, Dr. Andrew Ndawula said that after reporting the matter to Police, they are looking after her as they wait for either the mother or the relatives to pick her up.
