Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese Monsignor Charles Kasibante has urged Ugandans to emulate the spirit of the Uganda Martyrs in loving one another irrespective religion, so as to build a better country.

“The Uganda Martyrs have done a lot in making Uganda to be known as a formidable nation ever since they were canonized in 1964. They loved and encouraged one another which helped them to succeed in their just cause against Kabaka Mwanga’s wrath,” Kasibante said.

Kasibante was delivering a homily to a large congregation of Christians who turned up at St Luka Baanabakintu Catholic Parish, Ggombe, Butambala District, Saturday, for a holy mass that preceded the sensitization programme for the 22 Uganda Martyrs in preparation for the Martyrs' Golden jubilee in October this year.

Msgr Kasibante also urged the participants to work hard so that they are able to sustain themselves and their families. He further urged the Christians to always remember to give tithe, 10% of their harvest if they expected God to give them more bumper years.

He further urged the Christians to develop a saving culture in their life and avoid lavish or wasteful spending, so that they could be able to develop themselves and assist the needy.

However, Kasibante, who was impressed by the large turn-up of youth for the sensitization, lamented over the numerous theft and aggravated robberies committed.

He, therefore, asked the youths and the Christians in general to reflect more on their individual lives as they emulate the Uganda Martyrs in strengthening the bondage between them and the Kingdom of God.

Kasibante hailed Archbishop Dr Cyprian Kizito-Lwanga for starting the Uganda Martyrs sensitization programme, which he described as wonderful and beneficial to the Christians who had declined in faith and; which is intended to prepare them more in celebrating the Martyrs’ Golden Jubilee.

Fr Joseph Ssebayigga, leader of the sensitization programmes led the team. Fr Joseph Mukasa-Muwonge, head of the research department about the 22 Uganda martyrs and saints in the Kampala Archdiocese, were present.

Fr Muwonge requested the parishioners to pray for the intercession of St Luka Bannabakintu, the patron of their parish who hailed from Butambala County.
