The Government will begin a nation wide registration exercise for all members of the reserve force on Monday.

According to the internal affairs ministry that will coordinate the exercise, the registration will take place at the headquarters of local governments across the country.

The internal affairs ministry spokesperson, Pamela Ankunda, said the exercise, which is the first of its kind, will help the Government to generate a reliable record of reservists in the country.

“There is no proper record of members of the reserve forces. A reliable record is needed for government’s planning purposes,” Ankunda said.

The registration, she explained, is also aimed at generating accurate information about the reservists’ locations and their numbers so that they can easily be reached if they are recalled into service.

The reservists, Ankunda said, include army veterans, ex-local defense unit officers, returnees (private guards) from Iraq and those that have attended military courses.
