Mao's family rules out poisoning

Democratic Party (DP) president general Norbert Mao's family has ruled out the possibility that he could have been poisoned.

This follows Mao's admission at Nairobi Hospital in Kenya where he was taken ill after complaining of acute chest pain last week.

Medics at the hospital have carried out ‘a number of tests” to ascertain the cause of acute pain in his chest.

His brother, Dusman Okee, has told New Vision that the doctors have not yet released the results from the tests.

“They have carried out several tests on him (Mao). He is responding to treatment well and doctors are saying he will be out of hospital soon,” Okee added. He said Mao was being attended to by his wife – Naomi Mao.

The family also ruled out possible poisoning.

“Doctors would have detected poison by now and put him on treatment as soon as possible. We have ruled that out,”

According to family sources, Mao was admitted at Gulu Independent Hospital when he started feeling acute chest pain last week.

He was later transferred to Lacor Hospital in Gulu before medics there advised that he should be taken to “a better health facility”. “He chose The Nairobi Hospital because he has many friends there. He was flown out on Sunday,” Okee said.

According to DP Secretary General, Mathias Nsubuga, Mao and other politicians were in northern Uganda last week to attend a political rally.

Mao addressed the rally before he was taken ill.
