ULC accused of leasing MUBS land unlawfully

MUBS is accusing Uganda Land Commission for leasing out their land, which members say was done without following the regulations.

KAMPALA - Makerere University Business School is accusing Uganda Land Commission for leasing out their land which members say was done without following the regulations.

The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament chaired by Serere Woman MP Alice Alaso met officials from Makerere University Business School (MUBS) on Tuesday.

The committee heard from the Principal of MUBS, Prof. Wasswa Balunywa, that out of the 15.1 acres owned by MUBS in Bugolobi and Kireka, only two  acres are in the university’s name.

Prof. Balunywa further told the committee that some of the individuals who were leased part of the land in Bugolobi include First  Deputy Prime Minister Henry Kajura, Augustine Karugaba and Alexander Okello, among others.

The committee’s vice chairperson, Paul Mwiru, said the committee has directed the Uganda Land Commission to explain the giveaways.

The commission was also told to provide a list of those occupying the said land so that it can help the committee in its investigations.
