The mere mention of Prof. George Kanyeihamba’s tribunal that investigated wrangles in Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) arouses vehement disapproval from the current leadership.

The relentless retired judge on Tuesday released a stinging report amidst objection from UOC that has repeatedly disowned the tribunal.

“The UOC executive has never sanctioned the setting up of the alleged Adhoc tribunal.

The extra-ordinary assembly denounced the so called adhoc committee purportedly set up by the former president (Roger Ddungu) who has since been banned from UOC activities,” a statement issued by UOC secretary Peninah Kabenge stated.

At a press briefing at Kampala Club Kanyeihamba, flanked by the tribunal secretary Col. Stephen Kwiringira and counsel Peruth Nshemereirwe, recommended that Ddungu and assistant secretary Nicholas P’Minga be recognised and facilitated in their duties.

The report also recommended that the UOC constitution be amended, Kabenge should resign, and Uganda Rugby Union is not a member of UOC and should not be until 2016.

The tribunal also recommended that IOC play a more positive and problem solving role in UOC; and the ministry responsible and National Council of Sports should stop interfering in internal management of sports organisations.

“For us when we start work we must complete it. At some point funding stopped and we had to use our own resources. It was all about service to the nation for the good of sports in Uganda,” Kanyeihamba stated.
