There will be more motivation in the battle for Commonwealth Games medals after President Yoweri Museveni boosted the athletes with an extra $28 each per day for the 14 days they are expected to spend in Glasgow.

The athletes and officials were expected to get $72 per day but the President has topped up to increase the allowance for the athletes to $100 per day.

“It is aimed at motivating the athletes. It is a small token of appreciation from the President as those who win medals already have a monthly stipend. They are supposed to sign for it from State House for accountability purposes and those who are yet to travel have already picked theirs. Those who have already travelled can send their parents to sign for it or they will receive it when they come back,” explained Norah Nassimbwa of the president’s office.

Team Uganda Head of Delegation Vice President Edward Ssekandi is expected to fly out today for the opening ceremony that is scheduled for Wednesday.
