Kenyatta Airport flights resume

Flights at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya have resumed, hours after an incident forced airport authorities to halt operations.

 “I can confirm that flight operations to Nairobi have resumed, and two of the four planes have already left,” Ignie Igundura, the head of corporate affairs at the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority told the New Vision.

He described the incident as a ‘short term challenge’ and assured passengers that the situation was under control.

“We worked closely with the airlines and the situation is easing. Once it clears, all the passengers will return home,” Igundura said.

A passenger plane belonging to Egypt Air swerved off the runway at JKIA at about 3:00am on Wednesday, prompting airport authorities to close the runway for safety reasons.

Some of the 466 passengers whose flights were diverted to Entebbe were evacuated to the departure lounge while others remained on board.
