Victoria University won the last 2012-13 Bell Uganda Super League slot and immediately sent out a warning about their intentions of staying in the top division.

“We have come to stay. Those who thought we are another of those newcomers who can’t stay longer than a season, are mistaken,” stressed assistant coach Stephen Bogere.

Bogere revealed that they are going to strengthen their side with more seasoned players. “I can’t say at the moment which talent we are signing, but we are definitely boosting our squad.”

A jubilant Bogere was speaking after Victoria University whipped Aurum Roses 4-0 at Namboole on Saturday, to grab the final slot to the Uganda Super League.

They join Kiira Young and Entebbe Young who progressed earlier after topping the two Big League groups.

Moses Gale, Edwin Kyambadde, Dennis Iguma and Ronald Kirumira scored a goal each to silence an Aurum Roses side that seemed to do everything right except put the ball into the net.

Both sides displayed good skills but it was Victoria University who made better use of their last touches in a game played in a heavy downpour in the second half.

Victoria’s Serb midfielder Ilic Milos laid the killer passes that had his side taking a two goal lead in the first half. As Victoria ran rings round their opponents, Aruum’s Muhammad Kabuye lost his cool opting for rough play that earned him a red card from referee Denis Batte.

Victoria’s Serbian head coach Ivan Zoric described his players as good students who had learnt a lesson from last month’s loss to the same opposition in the group stages.

“We worked very hard after the loss and our efforts paid off. I commend our fans who cheered us on.”

In the day’s second match Henry Nyanzi struck in the first half to help Entebbe FC beat Kiira Young in the Super Cup and lift the Big League title.
