Anthony Bongole scored his fourth goal in four Uganda Super League matches as Proline FC dented URA FC’s ambitions for a double at Nakivubo Tuesday.

The veteran struck in the 65th minute from close range after a silky move by William Wadri and Proline defended the lead against the newly crowned Uganda Cup champions to the last whistle.

“This is a very sweet victory. Beating the champions is not easy. We are now going to work hard to lead the table,” a delighted Proline coach Abdallah Muribu said after the victory.

The win propelled Proline to the second place on the super league table with 45 points in 24 matches taking advantage of Express FC whose game against Victors did not take off because no referees were assigned to handle the match at Jinja’s Kakindu stadium.

There was a fracas at the Kakindu stadium when travelling fans almost lynched two of the officials who were selling tickets for the game. The fans demanded a refund of their money arguing that they could not lose both transport and entry fees for a game that did not materialise. It took the intervention of the Police to bring the situation back to normal.

Express coach Sam Ssimbwa was furious. With URA beaten at Nakivubo, the Red Eagles could have reclaimed the apex of the league table. “How does this happen? How can they fail to appoint referees for our game? I do not understand the motive!” Ssimbwa wondered.

Uganda Super League Tuesday results:
H. Busia 0 KCC 1
Proline 1 URA 0
Masaka 0 Water 1
Victors v Express - aborted
