Nyakana on the run after assaulting traffic officer

Kampala Central Division mayor Godfrey Nyakana is on the run for allegedly beating up a traffic officer on duty.

Police in Kampala is hunting for the Kampala Central Division mayor Godfrey Nyakana on suspicions of defying traffic rules and beating up a traffic officer on duty, on Tuesday evening.

 Nyakana reportedly beat up Isaac Kambale a traffic officer attached to Katwe Police Station before driving away leaving him in a critical condition.

 Nyakana allegedly drove to Kibuye from the city Center on a one way route, slowing down traffic flow.

When the traffic officer confronted him, he remained adamant prompting the officer to pluck off the car number plate, registration UAP 684K. Nyakana then reportedly jumped out of his car and assaulted the officer.

As another traffic officer Joseph Ejiku rushed to rescue his colleague, Nyakana reportedly snatched his car plate drove off.

Kambale currently nursing wounds at Mulago hospital   reported the matter to Katwe Police accusing Nyakana of assault and not respecting government uniform.

 The Katwe Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations Department (OC-CID) Ronald Bogere said in an interview that Police inquiries are going on and once investigations are complete Nyakana will be arrested and charged.
