A seven-man Uganda team is in Maputo for the Cana Zone 3 & 4 Swimming Championships starting today.

Captained by Jamila Lunkuse, the team is looking forward to bettering their ten medal haul from last year’s championship held in Botwsana.

Lunkuse and Arnold Kisulo are the most experienced on the team having collected nine of the ten medals Uganda won then.

Kisulo won eight gold medals at a Kenyan event and believes he can better last year’s five-medal haul at the annual championship.

“We have prepared well and I think I can win more medals,” he said before departure on Saturday.

Olympic-bound Lunkuse also hopes to better her performance in the 50m and 100m freestyle races where she won silver at the last edition.

The team was flagged off by NCS official Sam Walusimbi who urged parents to continue supporting their children in both formal education and sports.
