ANTI riot Police officer from Jinja central Police Station went through a training drill in order to make sure that they get familiar to the equipment they use while quelling rioters in the town.

The police officers attached to the Field Force Unit (FFU) clad in full anti-riot gear went through the routine training exercise at Kakindu stadium.

“This is a continuous process in the Police force, It helps us as far as alertness is concerned, to be vigilant, physically fit and how to overcome rioters during public protests,” Jonathan Musinguzi, the Jinja District Police Commander said.

Samson Lubega, the South Eastern Police spokesperson said the exercise will be routinely carried out every Friday in order to enable the officers get familiar with the equipment and commands during public protest situations.

He added that the exercise is aimed at ensuring that the guns do not rust and that tear gas vehicles do not develop mechanical conditions since they are not used occasionally.

“The equipment and vehicles have taken long without being used in the field so the public should not get scared after hearing the sound of guns whenever we are doing practice,” said Lubega.
