The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has said he has new evidence incriminating the six FDC party members accused of plotting to overthrow Government.

The state prosecutor to the case Beatrice Odongo, informed Nakawa court presided by Magistrate Mackay Odele Opolot, this week that new evidence incriminating the six accused is being compiled.

“New pieces of evidence have come up and are being added up to the original evidence and  investigations are still going on,”Odongo said.

The accused are FDC women’s league Ingrid Turinawe, Francis Mwijukye, Sam Mugumya, Mathew Walakira, Robert Mayanja and Tony Sempebwa.

Prosecution alleges that between August and October 2011, they plotted to overthrow the government of Uganda.

Prosecution further told court that the accused held meetings in Kampala, Mubende and Hoima among other places aimed at launching simultaneous riots until the government of Uganda is overthrown.

However, speaking outside court, the accused maintained their innocence, saying the charges are politically fabricated.

Turinawe and her group also expressed disappointment at the court since they had been waiting and moved from one court room to another for over an hour before the Magistrate could see them.

“What they are doing is completely wrong; they have the mission of keeping us exhausted, moving up and down. It’s like they are losing interest and they will end up chasing the case.” said Turinawe.

Turinawe also said that when all 6 of them were arrested at first, the court magistrates said that they had all the evidence and that she now wondered where it was and why the magistrate had not yet appeared at the time.
Accordingly the next court session was fixed for May 14, 2012.
