Stung by a recent ban of the opposition pressure group Activists for Change (A4C) by Government, the group Friday announced a new name; For God and my County (4GC).

The national coordinator of the defunct A4C, Matthias Mpuuga who retains the same position in 4GC told a news conference in Kampala that their objectives remain the same.

“It’s the name which has changed but our objectives for a better Uganda remain the same. Our countrywide activities will go on as planned and this time round we are more energized,” Mpuuga the Masaka Municipality MP said.

The decision to proscribe the group was taken by Cabinet and executed by the Attorney General (AG) Peter Nyombi.

"Today and even tommorrow, I will continue to oppose the evil going on by the current regime. I challenge the Attorney General to ban 4GC also," Mpuuga said.

 The group came to prominence last year for organizing walk to work campaign to protest among other things, against the rising cost of living and alleged corruption in government.

Relying on section 56 of the Penal Code Act (PCA) government outlawed the group.

Following the annoucement of the new name, the Attorney General clarified that, "A national motto cannot be used for opportunistic political gains and if the old pressure group members are the same office beares, the group remains illegal."

The section out laws unlawful society and states that an unlawful society is one comprising of two or more persons whether known by name or not, if it is formed for the purposes of among others levying war or encouraging or assisting any person to levy war on government; killing or injuring or inciting to the killing or injuring of any person; destroying or injuring or inciting to the destruction or injuring of any property, subverting or promoting the subversion of the Government or of its officials and committing or inciting to acts of violence or intimidation;
