IPU president jets in

Inter-Parliamentary Union president Abdelwahed Radi has arrived in the country for the 126th Parliamentary Assembly.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union  (IPU) assembly president Abdelwahed  Radi arrived in Uganda on Tuesday for the 126th Parliamentary Assembly.

Radi was welcomed by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga at Entebbe International airport.

The IPU assembly which runs from March 31 to April 5 at Commonwealth Speke Resort Hotel Munyonyo will bring over 3000 delegates to Kampala. 

President Yoweri Museveni will open the summit on Saturday and other related meetings will be held at Serena and Imperial Royale hotels.

The assembly will discuss good governance and maternal health among other issues. Kadaga lobbied for the conference to come to Uganda.

 The IPU is the international organization of Parliaments. It was established in 1889.

The Union is the focal point for world-wide parliamentary dialogue and works for peace and co-operation among peoples and for the firm establishment of representative democracy.
