A woman whose hands were chopped off by her husband is lying in pain at the National referral hospital, Mulago.

She was admitted in Ward 3A together with her 1-year-old daughter Justine Nakato who passed away on Thursday. Francis Bandda a husband of Florence Nabaterega, 32, also hacked his other two children and died on spot.

According to Nabaterega, the incident took place in Mityana on Tuesday night at around 9.00 pm.

She narrated that, Bandda came home late in the night and he started demanding for his dinner and when he finished his food he requested her to escort him to the bathroom.

She hesitated because she had to take their twins to sleep. He then picked a panga and hacked her together with her little children.

When Nabaterega shielded her face, Bandda chopped her limbs, and also cut deeply her head; leaving her bleeding profusely and in the process killed two of his children.

One of the twins Babirye died instantly, while another only identified as Kigongo, died thereafter.

Nabaterega was rushed to Mityana hospital together with another child Nakato, who had sustained injuries.

Later in the morning, the police ambulance transferred the two victims to Mulago hospital.

The lovers had a misunderstanding over the ownership of the twins, because the husband suspected that the children belonged to another man.

“One of our children ran to neighbours and asked for help, they came and rescued us but Bandda managed to escape,” Nabaterega said.

Nabaterega’s mother Gorrette Nambirige,55, appealed to people of good will to come to their rescue.  Nambirige is attending to her daughter who is critically ill.

Mityana district police commander (DPC) Alfred Bagamabki said they had no crew about the motive of the husband.

“We are having scanty information about this matter. We do not know why the man didi this, but we are trying to established what the cause was,” he said.

Residents on Wednesday morning mobiliside, and went on the serach for bbanda. They recovered a fire hanging on the tree, and suspected that he would have tried to commit suicide.
