FUFA has moved the inauguration of the Njeru Technical Centre to the end of February 2012 reportedly to coincide with FIFA president Sepp Blatter’s expected tour of neighbouring Kenya.

Kenya Football Association chairman Sam Nyamweya has confirmed that the FIFA boss has accepted to visit the country on a tour of Eastern Africa.

And a source in FUFA revealed that the inauguration of the Njeru centre was pushed ahead to coincide with Blatter’s tour.

But both the federation and Mamelodi played down Blatter’s possible visit to inaugurate in January saying that he would be busy.

FUFA chief executive officer Edgar Watson insisted yesterday that the ceremony was only delayed by the failure to furnish the centre in time.

At the beginning of the construction, FIFA development officer in charge of eastern and southern Africa, Ashford Mamelodi promised to persuade Blatter to inaugurate the centre. Mamelodi has since taken personal interest with numerous visits to Uganda to ensure the facility is completed.

The closest Blatter came to visiting Uganda was during the inauguration of the FUFA House in 1997, but only sent a representative while he visited Kenya.

During a recent visit by Mamelodi, Watson said that the multimillion shilling centre would be operational early this month.
