Whereas Ugandans anticipated joyous transition from the passed to the year, many were ushered into 2012 with mixed feelings. Some unscrupulous organisers of the numerous end of year parties around Kampala City left the patrons cursing.
One of the most anticipated cebetrations dubbed Mr.G End of Year Party at Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo, organised by local musician Bebe Cool to usher the New Year was to feature Chaka Demus but this was never to be.
Chaka Demus never came, only Pliers and Mr. G of the Swaggarific famev appeared. What a wrap up of a year; ending the year with a kiwani by one of the top artistes in the country!
Another disappointment came at the Club Pilsner and Club Silk –sponsored street party. The highly anticipated party had less to offer, in terms of performances; eight artistes hurriedly performed and disappeared, leaving the partiers; who were dominated by youths, drowning into a lake of booze.
At Nakivubo Stadium; Namboole Stadium and Kololo Airstrip, Christians prayed all night long. At Sheraton Kampala Hotel and the unfinished Hilton Hotel in Nakasero, Ugandans partied till dawn.
But this does not mean that Ugandans who did not make it to such venues were left out; crowds of Ugandans were seen burning motor-tyres at various road junctions and suburban towns of Kampala, before and after midnight.
