Banyakigezi summit was an eye-opener

THE Banyakigezi convention held in Kabale from December 27 to 29, 2009, was a huge success. Several dignitaries from all corners of the word attended. I learnt that it is a wonderful thing to give back to a community that brought one up. It is equally beautiful to mind about the welfare of the less privileged.

The projects so far under the convention which include education support services, have made a great contribution. Government can encourage the establishment of such conventions in all regions of Uganda and perhaps plan to contribute to their efforts too. Combined resources can do a bigger thing compared to individual resources.

The Government can also decide to channel their resources through such regional conventions and mandate the members to oversee activity implementation instead of channelling money through programmes like NAADS where money is usually embezzled by corrupt civil servants.

When people know it is their thing, they will always offer their best.
