CANDIDATES in the Mbale municipality parliamentary by-election have been urged to respect each other and present objective manifestos to voters.

Electoral Commission chairman Badru Kiggundu also warned the candidates against bribing voters.

“To the voters, I remind you that your vote is your power to put in place suitable leaders. Therefore, use it wisely. All stakeholders should work together to deliver free, fair and transparent elections in Mbale municipality,” Kiggundu said.

He made the call while addressing the nine parliamentary candidates and residents at Wanale Division headquarters hall in Mbale district recently.

Kiggundu urged candidates to desist from acts like multiple registrations, intimidation, violence and using foul language.
He said open campaigns began on January 23 and would end on February 14.

“We have 72 polling stations in the constituency where voting will be carried out on February 16.

The commission will deliver the results of the polls within 48 hours after closing the polling stations,” Kiggundu said.
