THE Government will make laws to streamline operations of tour firms and safari guides in the tourism industry, Gaggawala Wambuzi, the trade state minister, has said.

He noted that due to lack of substantive laws, some tour firms were mistreating tourists. Untrained safari guides had also infiltrated the sector, he added.
“It is unacceptable for a person to bring $700mand is mistreated. If we don’t come out to check such behaviour, it will hurt the sector,”

Gaggawala said during celebrations to mark 15 years of the Uganda Safari Guides Association at the Uganda Museum. The minister noted that some firms do not refund tourists when they are unable to travel and others take them to destinations they had not agreed on.

Gaggawala advised sector stakeholders to train at least two people in every sub-county about different tourism-related activities like bird watching and cultural tourism.
