A total of 54 primary seven leavers in Bamunanika county, Luweero district, who had failed to join secondary schools due to lack of school fees have been given scholarships.
The bursaries were given to them by former Mengo minister of education, Dr. JC Muyingo.

Muyingo said the gesture was part of his plan to promote education in the county by decreasing the rate of school drop-outs and increase the number of graduates in the area.
Statistics from the 2002 population census by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics show that 6.1%of the residents are illiterate, while only 7.8% have completed O’level. Only 6% attended A’ level.

The scholarship recipients have since been enrolled in Kakoola High School in Kiteme parish Bamunanika and Seeta High School in Mukono district. Both schools were founded by Muyingo, the headteacher of Uganda Martyrs Secondary School Namugongo.
Others were enrolled in Mt. Henry’s College Mukono and St. Cyprian Kyabakadde in Kayunga.

“The scholarships will enable the beneficiaries study from senior one to senior six if they are disciplined and hard working,” Muyingo said.
