IDEA Spice, an international branding company, has opened shop in Kampala.

Sajith Ansar, the founder and chief executive officer, said the firm was started out of a desire to fill the vacuum created in the fast changing global business arena.

“I decided to develop the firm for small and medium companies to access and nurture their brands to international levels,” Ansar said.

The company, headquartered in Dubai, will use its joint venture arm, Designbase Ltd, for its operations in Uganda and the neighbouring countries.

“The failure rate for new businesses is around 70 to 80% in the first year. Only about half of those who survive remain in business,” Ansar said.

Manoj Sandreet, the head of Designbase, said their first step was to work with emerging local companies to position them to compete in the global market.

“We strongly believe Africa has many firms, enterprises and government departments that can benefit from our global experience,” Sandreet said.
