THE lands, housing and urban development ministry is starting a systematic demarcation of land in 16 districts, the ministry’s communications consultant, Emmanuel Mukwange, has disclosed.

Mukwange said the system aims at reducing the cost of land surveys. “We have already carried out the surveys and selected the districts to pilot this new system. This system is aimed at making all Ugandans have land titles to avoid the unnecessary boundary disputes,” Mukwange said.

He said the exercise has so far been implemented in Ntungamo, Iganga and Mbale districts. Mukwange added that in Bulamagi parish in Iganga, land titles have been presented to land owners.

Mukwange was on Thursday speaking during the national policy consultation and validation workshop at the Teachers Resource Centre in Tororo district.

Mukwange said the workshop was organised to capture stakeholders’ views and recommendations that were not captured in Draft 4 of the national land policy.

He said a new report, Draft 5, will be sent to Parliament for debate. Mukwange said the process was backed by the international community.
