GOVERNMENT will recruit 3,600 new physical education teachers in the next two years. The plan, announced by state minister for primary education Kamanda Bataringaya yesterday, aims at raising interest in sports in primary and secondary schools.

“The challenge we have as government is that the teachers of physical education are few,” Bataringaya said at the opening of the National Primary Schools Athletics Championship at Malukhu in Mbale.

He appealed to the district leaders and politicians to support sports in their districts as a way of uniting communities.

“Very many countries fight each other but when it comes to sports, they are one,” Bataringaya narrated.
Bataringaya also warned parents against refusing their children to participate in sports and games.

“Children who do not exercise have more challenges because all the fats eaten just stay in the body without being burnt hence sickness. So, education should go hand in hand with sports,” he told teachers.
