JIMMY, a local comedian, has been making the rounds at the fashion nite since January. While his first appearance earned him laughs as did his second, he now needs to put a little more effort into his one-liners.

If I hear another senseless joke about how you can tell this profession or tribe from the way one dances in the club, I will slit my throat or his.

Last Thursday evening turned out to be yet another predictable night at the Club Silk Fashion nite. Rachel K was her usual jovial self as MC Denis Mawanda gave his usual buy-land-from-Jomayi speech and Wafagio and Renah (formerly of Dream Girls) did their gyrations on the stage as surprise guest performers.

But moving swiftly on to the fashion, Marsha Buyungo of BYG-Marsha Fashions is one designer to watch out for. The 27-year-old is a sister to Jemma Kisaale of Jemma Designs and Fashion School.

She says although she has never had any formal fashion design training, she draws inspiration from her sister and mother who are her fashion icons.

Marsha had several knock-out designs from her three collections which included pretty chiffon dresses in green and blue patterned prints and slinky office pencil dresses in neutral colours of grey and dark purple.

She has a thing for ruffles, short or long, as seen in many of her dresses, especially her red carpet collection which had voluminous eye-catching ruffles adorning the special occasion gowns.

Some of her designs were juvenile and the models did more harm than good but for her first collection, she made the impression.
