THE Police in Moroto district are holding five women and a man for allegedly kidnapping 24 children from Matany and Ngoleriet sub-counties in Bokora county, Moroto district.

The north-eastern regional Police spokesperson, George Obia, on Tuesday said the suspects were last week arrested in Iriri trading centre in Moroto while transporting the children to Kampala.

“The children are aged between one and 17 years. We are yet to identify their destinations,” he said.

Obia said the Police had been informed about agencies that were dealing in child trafficking.

He said the suspects were arrested after a tip-off by residents in the two sub-counties after the suspects lured the kids with gifts.

“We left them mobilising the kids and alerted the Police, they were later rounded up at the bus stage,” Obia said.

He identified the suspects as Logera Achila, Tereza Nadong, Anjelina Achila, Maritina Nauga, Viola Otim and Bosco Ochero.

Obia said the kids will be united with their parents after interrogation by child protection officers at Moroto Police Station.

He warned those engaged in such illegal acts of arrest and prosecution.

Obia said the suspects will be charged with kidnap and abduction when the investigations are completed.
