MARTIN Toroitich will have more competition as he seeks to end foreign dominance in the Hared Source of The Nile Marathon due May 30 in Jinja.

Toroitich, who returned home after winning a half marathon and a 10km road race in Europe, headed to Kenya for more training. He will be faced with a challenge from runners from five countries that the national federation has invited for the event.

“This will increase the level of the competition and also inspire local runners,” said Ali Mohammed, one of the organisers.

Athletes from long distance powerhouses Ethiopia and Kenya, together with those from Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi have been invited to spice the event. The proceeds will go towards the Jinja Hospital maternity ward.

The organising committee has already secured an electronic timer. Registration for the marathon ends on Sunday.
