THE nation will remain indebted to the Rev. Yeko Ongora Atwai, the former Amolatar resident district commissioner, for his versatility and diligence in his works, President Yoweri Museveni has said.

Museveni, in a condolence message read by lands minister Daniel Omara Atubo on Friday, said Atwai exhibited leadership skills in the church, education sector and Parliament.

“The NRM has lost an ardent supporter and activist. I hope those he leaves behind emulate him,” Museveni said.

Atwai, 71, died of prostate cancer at Lira Regional Hospital recently. He was buried at Ireda Shamber in Lira Municipality last Friday. He is survived by a wife, Jusphine Ongora and five children.

Atwai represented Lira municipality in the National Resistance Council, was chairman board of The New Vision between 1991 and 1996, before becoming board chairman of the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
