THE Police in Pader district have been challenged to improve their image so as to gain the respect of the community. “The name of the Police in Pader has been tarnished; that they get bribes from complainants and torture suspects in cells.

But you don’t extract information by torturing, it is through investigating the suspected crimes committed,” the resident district commissioner, Santo Okot Lapolo, said.

He called for the speedy investigation of cases. Lapolo made the call recently while commissioning four Police posts worth sh254.7m at Kalongo Police post.

The units were constructed by the German Development Services, with funding from United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Lapolo said the posts, constructed at Adilang, Acholibur, Lapul and Kalongo sub-counties under the Peace Recovery and Development Plan, would help to provide administrative offices for the Police and reduce crime.
