THE Democratic Party (DP) has condemned the killing of Kham Kakama, the one-and-a-half-year-old boy who was kidnapped from Bugolobi, a Kampala suburb.

Kenneth Kakande, the party spokesperson, described the act as devilish. “We are glad with the efforts the Police have made to apprehend the killers. But we also call upon them to treat all cases the same way,” Kakande said.

Kakama’s body, wrapped in a sisal sack, was discovered last week in a swamp in Kamwokya, another city suburb, 13 days after his kidnap.

The kidnappers also took a sh30m ransom from Sven Karekaho, the father of the murdered child. “We want professionalism conducted on all cases of kidnapped and murdered children. Cases should not be treated in isolation,” Kakande said.

He wondered why the Government was taking long to make public the Budo Junior fire report. In 2008, fire gutted a dormitory at Budo Junior School, killing 20 pupils.

Kakande was speaking at the DP weekly press briefing at City House in Kampala. The party yesterday also unveiled a truck worth sh100m to be used by DP president Norbert Mao during his campaigns for next year’s presidential elections.

The truck, imported from Germany, has an in-built public address system and changing, resting and conference rooms. Kakande, who declined to reveal the source of the funding, said the party would soon import four more similar trucks worth sh500m.

He also warned DP members against joining the Inter-Party Cooperation (IPC), saying doing so was tantamount to defection. “In DP, we allow the freedom of expression but no member is allowed to join the IPC. Those wishing to do so should first return our party cards,” Kakande said.
