THE World Cup has attracted its fair share of celebrities and superstars –among them Miss World contestants that represented 31 of the countries that participated at the event.

As each of the quarter-final teams prepared for the final round of eight, their respective Miss World representatives were tasked to compete for their own prestigious World Cup football crown.

And if the Miss World Cup competition held at the Convention Centre in Sandton was meant to indicate which particular nation might claim the World Cup trophy on July 11, then Argentina could be winners in-waiting.

Argentina’s representative Mae Screlkove emerged World Champion after beating Ghana’s Miss World representative Mimi Areme in the final.

The Miss World representatives faced-off in penalty shoot-outs from the quarter-final stage, with Ghana’s Mimi Areme sinking Uruguay’s Eliana Oliveria, Brazil’s Luciana Reis defeating Holland’s Francis Beukevelb, Argentina’s Mae overcoming Germany’s Maike Frohlingsdorf and Paraguay’s Tamara Sosa beating Spain’s Laura Garcia.

At the semi-final stage, Ghana overcame Brazil, while Argentina swept past Paraguay to make the final.

“I can’t believe I am the best in the world,” Strelkov told The New Vision. “I hope Argentina will look to this and give their best to winning the tournament,” And what if Argentina wins the tournament? “I cannot say how wild I will be,” Mae added. “I will come to Uganda.”

The competition was organised by World Sport Destination Expo and AIPS.
