EDDY Omongole put up a sterling performance to prop Mbale Progressive to the national schools table tennis title. Omongole was unstoppable in the singles before boosting his school to victory in the team event at the three-day competition at King’s College Budo.

Attacking with hard shots and fast spins, Omongole cruised to a 4-1 victory over Mbale SS’ Arnold Mabuka in the singles. He then teamed up with Alex Wagumire and Francis Elyetu to triumph 3-2 over Manafwa High’s Shaban Namonye, Gilton Chelibe and Emma Mafabi.

Manafwa struck back by winning the overall girls’ title. The 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games’ participant Amina Kibone showed strength in depth as she outwitted her team-mate Magdalene Ludiya 4-1 to the singles crown.

Kibone then joined Ludiya and Asha Nambozo to lift the girls’ team crown. The school’s trio beat Mbale Progressive’s Zura Khaukha, Amina Namaganda and Mercy Nabusano 3-1.

In the cadets Emma Bazira displayed some of his best strokes to secure the boys title. The Railway Primary School pupil outwitted Nakasero’s Roger Kabonge 11-9, 11-5, 11-6 with good serves and variations in attacking shots.
