SPORTS Club Villa has given coach Sula Kato a green light to massively recruit top players to re-energise the team that disintegrated towards end of the 2009/2010 season.

A source at Villa Park, who preferred to remain anonymous, revealed yesterday that Kato has up to October to recruit new players. These will join the 11 from the previous squad that remain loyal to Villa.

However it is not clear how much money the coach has at his disposal for recruitment but the source said that city lawyer Fred Muwema has accepted to bankroll the exercise.

Efforts to reach Muwema, who is Villa’s sole spokesman were fruitless as his cell-phone was off most of yesterday.

But Kato confirmed the move saying that he had already discussed the plan with top club officials.

“I don’t know how much money is available but we are looking at getting the ten players from among those in the super league. The rest will come from Jogoo Young and other first division teams,” Kato confirmed.

Villa officials surrendered their authority to Muwema last month on condition that he takes centre stage in recruitment and payment of players for the new season.

The Jogoos completed the season with only 11 players who the officials kept in a secluded place in Munyonyo, a city suburb.

A bigger part of the players went on strike in May demanding wage arrears for over six months. Management summarily sacked all those who downed their tools.
