Lorry rams into school, injures 25

THREE pupils of St. Kizito Nursery and Primary School on Entebbe Road died instantly on Friday morning when a lorry rammed into their classroom.

THREE pupils of St. Kizito Nursery and Primary School on Entebbe Road died instantly on Friday morning when a lorry rammed into their classroom.

Over 25 others sustained serious injuries when the driver of a lorry Reg. number UAM 284N lost control of the vehicle.

Two of the deceased were identified as Douglas Ogajo and Moses Birimuye. The other pupil who died was not yet identified by press time.

The deceased were attending classes when death struck.

The Police identified the injured as Sylvia Namutebi 11, Gorrete Nagayi 10, Joan Nsiima 10, Hasfa Fauna 10, Moses Kigwe 10, Napoleon Muyingo 8, Andrew Semaganda 11, and Lukia Kizito.

Others are Irene Namatovu, Simon Peter Nsanja P1, Joram Masembe, Aron Bukenya, Hellen Nandawula, Steven Luyombyo, and Tina Nampijja. Most of these were pupils of the lower classes.

The Police said the unidentified driver and turn-boy jumped out and took off.

Rescuers, who included bodaboda cyclists, the Police and the nearby residents rushed to the school and helped to rush the victims to the nearby health centres.

Grief engulfed the school as the headmistress, Alice Nanfuka and her teachers, wailed helplessly before they were joined by the school’s parents.

By press time, many parents, who had stormed the school were still confused because of the confusion at the school.

Many parents could not locate their children in the chaos that included neighbours, rescuers and Police.
