ANTONY Okiror shrugged off a stiff challenge to anchor UPDF to the 400m title at the athletics meet of the Inter-Forces Games at Namboole on Tuesday.

The 27-year old made a strong kick to edge out Police’s Geoffrey Akena in a tight race. Okiror finished 48.4 seconds ahead of Akena (49.2sec) as the army side maintained their overall lead at the annual event.

UPDF also won the 5000m in both women and men (Rebecca Cheategi and Dickson Huru) in addition to the 10000m, 1500 and 800m victories.
Defending champions UPDF edged Police 3-2 in the men’s volleyball that started yesterday.

Hosts UWA lost to Prisons by the same margin.

The two-week competitions that ends this Saturday will continue today with soccer, volleyball, handball, netball and darts all at Namboole.
