Why do some employers overlook MDD graduates?

Dec 06, 2010

SOME MDD students like Fagil Mandy and Bobi Wine are doing well, others used it to pursue different careers and are doing fine. I think this Government official was wrong and shortsighted by judging me basing on one paper.

Dear Editor, I attended an interview for research officer’s job recently and was made to feel like I was stupid or incompetent because I had MDD as one my papers. Never mind that I have experience in research and have good grades in the social sciences paper. I also have post-graduate diplomas in human resource management from Makerere University and UMI. But the interviewer said I was misplaced. To make matters worse, when I told my spouse about it, he also blamed me for including the paper!

Is MDD that embarrassing? Does it really matter whether you study MDD or medicine as long as you excel and make it in life? Should we be crucified for that?

Some MDD students like Fagil Mandy and Bobi Wine are doing well, others used it to pursue different careers and are doing fine. I think this Government official was wrong and shortsighted by judging me basing on one paper.

He should have taken time to study my other transcripts. They should not judge us on such because it does not depict someone’s understanding and ability to perform.

MUK should come and defend its products/courses.
