MBARARA Municipality MP Winnie Byanyima has warned the UPDF army commander, Maj. Gen. James Kazini (right), against involving the army in the coming parliamentary by-election in Kinkizi West constituency.
Byanyima was on Saturday addressing reporters at her home in Kamukuzi near Mbarara town.
She said the army was repeating what it did in the presidential and parliamentary elections in Rukungiri where soldiers were used to influence the voters.
“The soldiers are taking partisan positions. For example, Maj. Gen. Kazini recently sent a message to Mbabazi in the court that he shouldn’t worry because the army will support him,” she said.
The Kinkizi West seat recently fell vacant after the court nullified the area MP and defence minister Amama’s election, Mbabazi, accusing him of mal-practices.
