THE Government is to spend over sh25b on health infrastructure in Kamuli district.
Construction of the hospital comes after the Government of Uganda received a conditional grant late last year from Spain, following an agreement signed in 1996.
The Government of Spain pledged to extend a grant that would be channelled to the improvement of health sectors in Kamuli and Kisoro districts that did not have government hospitals.
Kamuli district director of health services Dr David Tigawalana said under the arrangement between Ugandan and Spain, l5 health units are to be constructed, furnished and equipped.
He said the project would build a district referral hospital, four sub-referral health centres at constituency level, and 10 grade 3 health centres at sub-county level.
Dragados, a Spanish construction company, is to build the health units, expected to be completed by September next year.
The 100-bed hospital in the centre of Kamuli town would constitute an outpatient, maternity wing and administration block. Others wings will include male, children, and female wards.
Tigawalana said Dragados will also furnish and equip the hospital with all the necessary medical apparatus. Ends
