UGANDA Cranes and SC Villa were the biggest losers when influential defender Robert Tumusime fractured his leg during the Nile Special Super League encounter against Top Tv at Wankulukuku.

Tumusime, who has become one of the most consistent Villa defenders, was carried off the pitch after a hard tackle by Top TV’s Idris Kasirye in his team’s 2-0 win.

Minutes later, the Cranes defender was ruled out for four months. His defensive partnership with Sulaiman Tenywa was rock solid for Uganda in Kigali.

Cranes have reached a crucial stage in their bid to qualify for the 2004 Nations Cup finals in Tunisia while Villa is attempting to reach the money-spinning Champions League group stages for the first time.

The league and domestic cup champions will be travelling to Angola to play AS Aviacao.

“It is a great pity that Tumusime is ruled out. He has been one of the most consistent players and this gives us a greater burden in our campaign,” Villa coach Micho Sredojevic said.

After the victories in Iganga and Wankulukuku, giants Villa (33) and Express (29) moved ahead of the pack with the former staying on top and the Red Eagles overtaking URA for second slot.
